PHOTO & VIDEO RESEARCH

Research Photography – A Window Into the World Of Whale Behavior

Photography and videography are essential to inspiring others through education and conservation, but it is also a key component in the research efforts of Whale Trust Maui.

National Geographic photographer and Whale Trust Maui co-founder, Flip Nicklin, and underwater cinematographer, Jason Sturgis, lead Whale Trust Maui’s efforts to capture the unforgettable behaviors of humpback whales off Maui, Hawaii.

With the help of Flip and Jason, we are able to systematically document, through high quality digital photography and video, the social interactions and behavior patterns, occurring both at the surface and underwater, of humpback whales on the Hawaiian breeding grounds.
