The researchers at Whale Trust Maui have been featured in several high profile documentary films, taking the power of filmmaking into the waters off Maui. We hope you’ll enjoy learning about whales through the powerful medium of film.


Humpback Whales 3D 

Now playing in IMAX and Giant Screen Theaters! Whale Trust joined MacGillivray Freeman Films in their latest giant screen film featuring the mysterious lives of humpback whales in Alaska, Hawaii, and Tonga. The film is narrated by two-time Golden Globe nominee, Ewan McGregor and takes viewers on a journey into the mysterious world of one of nature’s most awe-inspiring marine animals.

The Humpback Code


2009, Award Winning Documentary Directed by Daniel Opitz. THE HUMPBACK CODE follows a team of researchers in the turquoise waters off Maui / Hawaii on a unique project to decipher the code of the Humpback Whale Song – the most complex acoustic display in the animal kingdom. This film is airing on Animal Planet and on the National Geographic International Channel. Check your listings for dates and times.
