What are the Doing Out There?
It’s impossible to be in Hawaii in winter and not see whales offshore. They are everywhere! But what are they doing out there? This book – ideal for both novice and experienced whale watchers – answers all your questions and tells you exactly what researchers know about the humpbacks that gather annually on Hawaiian breeding grounds. For more information see our Hawaii's Humpback's page.
The reviews are already coming in:
“Hawaii’s Humpbacks: Unveiling the Mysteries is indispensable for anyone with a sense of wonder about whales. It’s a field guide, primer and fascinating read all in one. If you’ve ever wondered why whales sing, what researchers do, and where best to see humpbacks, this is a must-read.”

The Future of Whale Trust Public Events
Are you missing Whale Quest? As many of you know, Whale Quest was very unfortunately unable to go forward in 2010. We have so appreciated your support of Whale Trust, and prior Whale Quest events, and we have heard from many of you, regarding your interest and desire to support a community based program for Maui, in 2011.
We are also interested in staying in touch with the community and sharing the amazing projects and research that are being worked on. Currently we are exploring a variety of options to continue this journey, to be called "Whale Tales". We have been in contact with several hotels regarding a day-long event, as well as others as potential host sites. Other possibilities would be talks with featured speakers during whale season, as well as other kinds of fundraisers.
What we do know is folks like you are interested in seeing this event continue and grow. Let us know in what areas you would be willing to help: fundraising, planning, volunteering, sponsor a speaker, office support, setup and breakdown There are many ways to support a future event, by joining together we can continue to come together to share, learn, and follow the research being done around these amazing creatures.

Kamehameha Golf Club hosts Whale Trust Golf Tournament
On January 17th, over 65 golfers and friends of Whale Trust gathered to play at the beautiful Kamehameha Golf Club. It was a beautiful Sunday morning, everyone was all smiles and ready to go. At the start Golf Carts were lined up for tee time with everyone joking and anxious to get going.
Gunars and JoRene Valkirs and The Bendon Family Foundation were sponsors for this event, which helped to raise over $12,000 for ongoing research and education. A tasty luncheon was held following the event to the hungry crowd. The day was a huge success and we look forward to next year. Thank you to all who participated, whether you played or not, we appreciate your support.
Flatbread Pizza
We were the lucky recipients of donations from Flatbread Pizza in Paia in late January when they hosted us for the weekly Tuesday event. A selection of items were available during the event including a silent auction featuring a donated Wyland original, signed photos by Flip Nicklin, and Hawaii’s Humpback books. Sherrie Reeve of Sherrie Reeve Gallery in Makawao graciously donated her calendars, donating all the proceeds to Whale Trust. Thank you for coming out and supporting us, it was great fun!
